Pablo Carreno Busta was holding his own against Benoit Paire, but had to retire hurt after falling 2-1 behind following the completion of the third set. Returning Roger Federer continued his comeback after tough third set against Casper Rudding, winning 6-3 6-1 7-6(2). Second seed Rafael Nadal uncharateristically dropped a set against Belgian's Daniel Goffin but held in the fourth set to reach the last 16. Argentine Leonard Mayer beat France's Nicolas Mahut over four sets to set up a tie with Diego Schwartzmann. There was another success for Argentina when Juan Londero took five sets to beat Corentin Moutet 2-6 6-3 6-4 5-7 6-4. Poor light prevented Stan Wawrinka and Grigor Dimitrov from completing their day's match, with Wawrinka two sets up. Stefanos Tsitsipas led Filip Krajinovic by the same margin, but left their third set poised at five sets all before coming in for the day.
