Man Utd lose to PSG to leave qualification in balance

Manchester United will have to wait until their final group game to qualify for the Champions League knockout stages after losing 3-1 to Paris Saint-Germain at Old Trafford.

Two goals from Neymar and a Marquinhos strike sealed United's fate while Fred was sent off for a second booking.

After an open start to the game, PSG took a sixth-minute lead when Kylian Mbappe's deflected shot bounced into the path of Neymar who finished from a tight angle.

United could have been down to 10 men in the 23rd minute when Fred appeared to headbutt Leandro Paredes, but after a VAR review the midfielder was let off with a yellow card.

Rashford had United back on level terms on 32 minutes. A long-range effort from Anthony Martial was parried by PSG goalkeeper Keylor Navas, but Aaron Wan-Bissaka pulled it back to Marcus Rashford who fired home from close range, courtesy of a Danilo deflection.

Soon after the goal, Fred and Paredes tangled again and this time the PSG man was cautioned.

Early in the second-half Martial missed a big chance to put United in front, missing from close range after good work from Rashford and Edinson Cavani found him in space 10 yards from goal.

But it was PSG who went in front when Ander Herrera's wayward shot was deflected into the path of Marquinhos by Abdou Diallo, and the Brazilian defender poked home.

Soon after Fred was dismissed for a challenge on his former teammate Herrera.

Neymar added a third for PSG in stoppage time as United, searching for a late equaliser, were caught on the counter-attack.

United remain top of Group H and require only one point to qualify ahead of next Tuesday's trip to RB Leipzig.
