Ducati’s Andrea Dovizioso topped the second wet MotoGP free practice session at Misano this afternoon by almost 1.2s despite late charges by the Repsol Hondas of Dani Pedrosa and Marc Marquez in a session that saw another batch of crashes. The Misano surface has been like Fairy Liquid-coated ice but Dovizioso was the master of it, coming back from an early crash to set a 1’49.195 compared to the 1’50.236 of Pedrosa, set on his last lap. Marquez also hopped up the order with his last run and knocked two seconds off between his fifth and sixth laps before retiring to the garage. Italian Danilo Petrucci made an unaccustomed trip into the top five, bagging fourth place, just ahead of this morning’s quickest man Yonny Hernandez – who was the only rider not to improve this afternoon despite trying really quite hard. Pol Espargaro outstripped Stefan Bradl for sixth place while Jorge Lorenzo, Andrea Ianonne – who crashed for the second time – and Valentino Rossi rounded out the top ten. The Doctor bounced back from his off this morning but is still two and a half seconds off the pace. Cal Crutchlow also came back from a morning crash to bag 11th place with Scott Redding in 13th after his last-lap tumble, just behind Aleix Espargaro. Michael Laverty finished in 17th place and one place ahead of Bradley Smith who found himself in the gravel trap again. Leon Camier was 19th but found nine seconds over lunch.
