A perfect start for Stuttgart
Stuttgart began their Europa League campaign with a comfortable victory over Young Boys in Group H.

Christian Gross' side opened the scoring through a 23rd-minute penalty from skipper Cacau after his strike partner Pavel Pogrebnyak was fouled in the area by Alain Nef.

The hosts had to wait until the hour mark to double their advantage through Christian Gentner before Germany international Serdar Tasci poked home an injury-time corner to cap a comfortable night.

Gentner and Cacau both tried their luck from distance early on but could not locate the target.

Ammar Jemal and Xavier Hochstrasser returned the favour at the end before Gentner missed a decent opportunity from the edge of the box.

It was Stuttgart's Sven Ulreich who was the first to be worked, though, as he parried Nef's 12-yard strike behind for a corner.

Nef tried his luck again soon after, but he was in the limelight for the wrong reasons after 23 minutes as he brought down Pogrebniak in the area and Cacau converted.

Daniel Didavi came close to making it 2-0 as he saw his left-footed shot from 18 yards tipped round the post by Marco Wolfli.

Young Boys were mostly restricted to long-range efforts, with Scott Sutter and Moreno Costanzo both unsuccessful before, at the other end, Didavi was again denied by Wolfli.

After the break, Pogrebniak missed from 12 yards when he should have done better, but it was not long before the second came.

Cacau played in Gentner just before the hour mark and he finished from 18 yards.

The match was over as a contest at that point, but that did not stop Nef bringing a fine save out of Ulreich with a goalbound 25-yard strike.

Martin Harnik twice went wide, then Mauro Camoranesi brought a decent stop out of Wolfli, who was again on hand to deny Cristian Molinaro as the game entered the closing stages.

Stuttgart did finally get a third goal though as, in stoppage time, as Tasci smashed the ball high into the net from close range.
