Rafael Nadal withdraws from Aegon Championship at Queen's Club

Rafa Nadal has announced that he will not compete at Queen's Club as he looks to recover in time for Wimbledon.

The 31-year-old Spaniard picked up his tenth French Open title last week, not losing a single set in the tournament.

However, the fatigue from a gruelling surface has taken its toll on Nadal, who has told his fans that he has been advised to rest rather than compete at the Wimbledon warm-up event in West Kensington.

''I am very sorry to say that I am not going to be able play Queen's next week,'' Nadal said in a statement released on his Facebook page. ''I am sad to make this decision because I love Queen's, I won the tournament in 2008 and every time I reached the Wimbledon final it was after playing Queen's.

''I was hoping to take some days off and then be ready, but at 31, and after a long clay court season with all of the emotions of Roland Garros, and after speaking to my team and doctors, I have decided my body needs to rest if I am going to be ready to play Wimbledon.

''Sorry to all the great fans in Britain and to the tournament organisers.

''I hope to see you at Queen's next year.

While Nadal's decision will disappoint fans attending the event, Queen's still have a star-studded group of players in line to attend next week's event.

Andy Murray and Stan Wawrinka top the bill, with Milos Raonic, Nick Kyrgios and Juan Martin Del Porto among a number of other big names who will take the grass of west London.
