Ostapenko stuns Halep to win first Grand Slam title at French Open

Jelena Ostapenko produced one of the great Grand Slam upsets as she beat third seed Simona Halep to win the French Open and claim her first major title.

The Latvian was a set and 3-0 down at one stage with Halep cruising before she staged a remarkable recovery to claim the title at Roland Garros, 4-6 6-4 6-3.

With a thrilling brand of attacking tennis, the unseeded Ostapenko delighted the Paris fans with her fearless approach and her triumph will live long in the memory.

Ostapenko could not be denied in the deciding third set after levelling with four games in succession in the second and Halep could not respond when it really mattered.

It is a remarkable story for women's tennis with the 20-year-old poised to become the next superstar in the game after her first Grand Slam title.

The first unseeded woman to win at Roland Garros in the open era, Ostapenko has made history and in the most thrilling fashion.
