Bayer Leverkusen failed to break into the top six on Sunday as they were held to a 1-1 draw at home by Augsburg.
Leverkusen goalkeeper Bernd Leno might have chosen a better way to celebrate earning his first call-up to the Germany national team than by giving Augsburg an early lead, helping a harmless Jonathan Tah backpass into his own goal.
Karim Bellarabi levelled before half-time, turning the ball in after Javier Hernandez's shot came back off the right-hand post.
Leverkusen immediately set about trying to find a winner and they had a glorious opportunity to grab it when they were given a penalty for handball, but Hakan Calhanoglu slipped slightly as he took the spot-kick and sent the ball over.
It was a costly miss as Leverkusen found no other way past Marwin Hitz, allowing Augsburg only their fifth point of the season.
