Juventus beat derby rivals Torino to maintain perfect record in Serie A

24/09/2017

Juventus kept pace with Napoli at the top of Serie A with a thumping 4-0 win against 10-man derby rivals Torino.

Paulo Dybala maintained his impressive strike rate this season and Miralem Pjanic added a fine second to put Juve in total control at half-time after Torino defender Daniele Baselli had been sent off.

Alex Sandro added Juve's third with a bullet header just before the hour-mark and Dybala capped another impressive display with a late second as Juve cruised to a seventh successive home league win against their Turin rivals.

It was Juve's sixth straight league win this season in pursuit of a seventh consecutive Serie A title, but they lie second in the table behind Napoli on goal difference. It was Torino's first league defeat of the season.

Torino threatened to take an early lead when Adem Ljajic picked out Iago Falque in the box, but Juve defender Giorgio Chiellini's brilliant covering tackle denied the winger a shooting chance.

Juve were then clinical when taking a 16th-minute lead, making Torino pay for giving the ball away cheaply in midfield.

Pjanic snaffled possession off Tomas Rincon 30 yards out and slipped the ball to Dyabala, who powered forward to the edge of the penalty area before despatching an unstoppable low shot into the bottom corner.

It was the Italy international's ninth goal in six Serie A matches this season and it took the wind out of Torino's sails.

Any hopes Torino had of preserving their unbeaten league start were dealt a major blow in the 23rd minute when Baselli was shown a second yellow card for a reckless high challenge on Pjanic.

Juve threatened to overrun their 10-man opponents before the interval. Dybala was off target with one effort and saw another saved, while Torino goalkeeper Salvatore Sirigu turned Pjanic's shot away.

But as half-time approached the home side doubled their lead. Juan Cuadrado pulled the ball back from the right edge of the area and Pjanic's exquisite first-time effort curled away from Sirigu inside his right-hand post.

Juve added a third in the 57th minute when Alex Sandro stole free at the near post to send a thumping header from Pjanic's corner beyond Sirigu.

Torino tried to respond but Lorenzo De Silvestri's effort was easily saved by Juve goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon and it was mainly one-way traffic.

Juve winger Federico Bernardeschi saw two efforts blocked and Sirigu knew little about Medhi Benatia's header when somehow saving with his legs.

Sirigu denied Dybala a second with a fine save in the bottom corner and the Juve forward and teammate Mario Mandzukic contrived to squander two more chances during a furious goalmouth scramble.

Torino were visibly tired in the closing stages and after Sirigu brilliantly denied Douglas Costa, Dybala dinked the ball over the goalkeeper for Juve's fourth goal and his 10th of the season in the final minute.
