Grigor Dimitrov demolishes Pablo Carreno Busta to reach ATP semi-finals in style

18/11/2017

Grigor Dimitrov produced a ruthless performance right out of the top drawer to brush aside a struggling Pablo Carreno Busta in the final group-stage match of the ATP Finals in London.

Dimitrov has long been tipped as a player capable of unseating those at the top table of the men’s game, and the 26-year-old Bulgarian is showing that he could be close to reaching those levels in the season-ending showpiece at the O2.

It took Dimitrov just 22 minutes to wrap up the first set, with a struggling Carreno Busta not getting close to looking competitive.

A lengthy physio break for the beleaguered Spaniard was the only thing that stretched the match beyond an hour, but the treatment had little impact on the outcome of the match as Dimitrov ran away with the second set by the same scoreline.

The victory completes a clean sweep for the Bulgarian in the group stages, following wins over David Goffin and Dominic Thiem.

Jack Sock awaits in the last four on Saturday evening, with Roger Federer to face Goffin in the other semi-final.
