Federer ready for full campaign

Roger Federer expects to enjoy a full second half of the year, having chosen to sit out the whole of the European claycourt season.

Federer made an astonishing return to action at the beginning of 2017, claiming an 18th Grand Slam title at the Australian Open, before winning the titles at both Indian Wells and Miami.

However, he then took time off to try and ensure that he is in prime condition for the remainder of the season, with an eighth Wimbledon crown among his principal targets.

The 35-year-old told the official ATP Tour website: "There are no more breaks now. I've had enough breaks.

"I'm a practice world champion now and that's not who I want to be. I want to be a champion on the match courts. So I'm going to be playing a regular schedule for the second part of the season.

"I was terribly surprised to win the Australian Open and to back it up and win the sunshine double in Indian Wells and Miami was a complete surprise to me."

Federer last claimed victory at SW19 in 2012, when he defeated Andy Murray in four sets.

He was beaten by Novak Djokovic in the final in both 2014 and 2015 as he took his tally to an amazing ten final appearances at Wimbledon.

Federer can be backed at 11/4 to triumph on the Wimbledon grass once again later this summer, with Murray priced at 11/4 and Djokovic available at 9/2.
