Pellegrini targets victory at Anfield

Liverpool have been told Manchester City will be 'going for the throat' when the two teams meet at Anfield, that's the vow of Blues boss Manuel Pellegrini.

The two title rivals know a victory for either side would put their club firmly in the driving seat for the final few games of the campaign, with the Reds currently top of the table following a 2-1 win at West Ham.

City still hold a two-game advantage over Brendan's Rodgers' side and a draw at Anfield would also be seen as delivering a blow to the Kop hordes.

Pellegrini, however, feels it would be folly for him to set up his team to try and come away with a point.

The Chilean was heavily criticised for setting up defensively as City crashed out of the Champions League to Barcelona last month, but Pellegrini insisted: "The Champions League is another competition, nothing similar to the Premier League.

"When you play in the Champions League and have two legs, it is very important at home not to concede goals - that's why maybe we were not so open against Barcelona.

"We are not going to Liverpool thinking we must draw. We don't know how to play in that way."

The Citizens, who hope to have star striker Sergio Aguero fit and available for the clash at Anfield next Sunday, are 2.80 to win on Merseyside and 3.50 to secure a draw, with the men from Manchester 1.72 to eventually be crowned champions.
